PORTRAITS:

One of my primary artistic passions is to paint portraits of people and animals. I have made portraits for several families over the passed 10 years, and feel an extreme sense of fulfillment in knowing that my paintings will touch the hearts of families for years to come.

PROCESS:

The process begins with a photo of the subject – be it a person, entire family, or pet. If you live within 1 hour of the Los Angeles area, my wife (a professional photographer) and I will meet with you to photograph the subject in natural light. If you live further away, you can send me a digital photo by email or a printed photo by regular mail (you may also scan a printed photo and send me the image via email). It is important to note that in the photograph, the face and/ or body must be well lit, and in the pose/ position in which you want subject to be in the final painting. If there are any blemishes or particular physical features that you would like to omit from the final painting, this can be accommodated within reason.

I will discuss the background options with you – as we can either collaborate on a location/ scenario occurring in the background of the final portrait, or you can opt to have the actual background in the photo painted exactly as is. Sometimes the background is a memorable part of the photo and in this case you may chose to have it painted in the portrait – and other times the background has no significance, in which case you may want a fantastical type of background, or one taken from another photograph.

Once the photo and background have been established, the next step is to determine the size of the canvas. Depending on where you would like to hang the portrait, and the type of impact you would like the portrait to have, we will discuss size options.

I have found oil on canvas to be the most impacting of all the mediums for portraits, however, if you specifically request watercolor, pastel, charcoal, or pencil, I can make your portrait in any of these methods, and pricing will be determined.

The finished portrait will be completed within 4-8 weeks, depending on projects that have come in prior to yours, as well as factors such as intricacy of background and size of the portrait. Rush services can be discussed for an additional fee.
